How to Dry Herbs With the LĒVO Dry Cycle

Properly drying herbs is one of the most important steps before infusing. Fresh herbs contain water, and when moisture mixes with oils or butter, it can reduce shelf life and affect quality.

This calculator helps you determine how long to run your LĒVO dry cycle so your herbs are properly prepared—without over-drying or under-processing.

Dried herbs:

  • Last longer in storage
  • Retain potency
  • Improve infusion quality
  • Reduce the risk of mold or spoilage

How the LĒVO Dry Cycle Works

A typical dry cycle uses low, controlled heat over time to gently remove moisture without damaging the plant material. Note that the Dry Cycle does not “activate” your flower or herb, but we do have that information - check out our article on the Activation Cycle.

For example:

  • A standard dry cycle may run around 3 hours at low heat (around 115°F)

However, actual drying time varies depending on:

  • Herb density
  • Water content
  • Quantity packed

Environmental factors (like altitude and ambient humidity)

What Affects Drying Time for Herbs?

1. Type of Herb

  • Leafy herbs (like basil or parsley) dry faster
  • Woody herbs (like rosemary or thyme) take longer

2. Moisture Content

Freshly harvested herbs hold more water and require longer drying times than partially dried ingredients.

3. Quantity

The more you load at once, the longer it takes. Herbs should always be loosely packed since they shrink as they dry.

4. Temperature Settings

Lower temperatures preserve flavor but require more time. Higher temperatures speed up drying, but must be controlled carefully.

Fresh vs. Dried Herbs (What to Expect)

Drying significantly reduces the size and weight of herbs.

  • Herbs shrink during drying
  • Flavor becomes more concentrated
  • Storage becomes easier and longer-lasting

Tips for Better Drying Results

  • Always spread or loosely pack herbs for airflow
  • Avoid overcrowding
  • Check texture—herbs should feel dry but not brittle
  • Allow time for the unit to reach temperature before counting full cycle time

When to Use This Calculator

This tool is ideal if you:

  • Just harvested fresh herbs
  • Want consistent infusion results
  • Are unsure how long to dry different herb types
  • Need to scale drying time based on batch size
