Why Choose Honey?

different types and colors of honey in jars. no labels,

Honey is special because it contains more than just sweetness—it naturally includes small amounts of antioxidants and plant compounds that come from the nectar and can support overall wellness.

Because honey can help create an environment that’s unfriendly to certain microbes, it’s been used traditionally for its antibacterial benefits. Think of stirring honey into hot tea to help soothe an irritated throat or calm a cough.

Why Infuse Honey?

Infusing honey is a simple way to transform a sometimes-overlooked ingredient into something more thoughtful. Whether you’re stirring it into tea, spooning it over toast, or sealing it into honey sticks, a good infused honey brings flavor and functionality to the table.

Our LEVO infusion machines let you infuse honey with nearly any botanical ingredient you can think of. Below we've included some standout infusion recipes such as:

  • Hot Peach Honey
  • Elderberry Infused Honey
  • Ginger Infused Honey
  • Apple Connamon Honey

How to Make Honey Sticks at Home

We'll dive into this step-by-step tutorial on how to make honey sticks with both regular and infused honeys. We've also shared a few delicious infused flavored honey recipes that will elevate your homemade honey sticks.

Materials You'll Need

  • Honey - Store bought, or LEVO infused (see recipes below)
  • Plastic straws (Preferably clear) or Vegetable cellulose straws
  • Needle-nose pliers
  • Candle or lighter
  • Scissors
  • Suggested: Culinary Syringe

Instructions

  1. Cut straws to your desired length. Remember: You’ll lose about 1 cm on each side during sealing.
  2. Pinch and seal the first end. Use pliers to pinch one side of the straw closed. Hold it near a candle flame until the end melts and seals shut. Let cool completely before releasing.
  3. Fill the straws with honey using a culinary syringe. Fill each about ¾ full.
  4. Let the honey settle. Prop up the straw for a few minutes to let the honey pool at the bottom.
  5. Seal the second end using the same method: Use the pliers to pinch the end of the straw closed, hold it near a candle flame until the end melts and seals shut. Let cool completely before releasing.

Enjoy! Use your sticks to sweeten drinks, gift them in bundles, or toss them into lunchboxes for a healthy treat.

Honey Sticks FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions, facts, and factoids about honey, infused honey, and honey sticks.

What Are Honey Sticks Used For?

Honey sticks are a mess-free way to enjoy honey anywhere—stir them into tea or coffee, drizzle over yogurt or oatmeal, sweeten smoothies, or use them as a quick snack on the go. They’re also popular for lunchboxes, travel, and adding to gift baskets or wellness kits.

How Do You Open Honey Sticks?

To open a honey stick, hold it upright, snip or tear off one end, and squeeze. If the honey is thick (especially in cooler temps), warm the stick between your hands for a few seconds to help it flow more easily.

What Are the Benefits of Honey Sticks?

Honey sticks make portioning easy and keep things clean—no sticky jars or spoons. They’re convenient for travel, great for sharing, and they help honey stay fresh by keeping each serving sealed until you’re ready to use it.
Are Honey Sticks Good For You?

Honey sticks can be a better choice than many candy-like snacks because they’re typically made with honey (and sometimes infused ingredients) rather than refined syrups. Honey provides quick energy and contains trace antioxidants and soothing properties, but it’s still a form of sugar—so it’s best enjoyed in moderation, especially with people who have diabetes and other conditions. And like all honey, it is not safe for babies under 12 months.

What Are the Medicinal Benefits of Honey?

Honey has long been recognized for its antimicrobial and therapeutic properties. According to a publication in the National Library of Medicine, honey can be a treatment for the improvement of upper respiratory tract infections.

Another National Library of Medicine journal, Molecules, states that honey has "high antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties" and "possesses antimicrobial capacity and anticancer activity against different types of tumors".
