Home-infusion enthusiasts unite! Whether you enjoy crafting herbal remedies, creating flavorful culinary oils, or experimenting with edible infusions, maximizing their potency can take your creations to the next level. In this blog post, we will explore effective techniques to boost the potency of your home infusions, ensuring that you get the most out of your ingredients and effort. Let's dive in and unlock the secrets to potent homemade infusions!
1. Understand Your Ingredients and Their Potency Potential
Before embarking on your infusion journey, it is crucial to understand the potency potential of your chosen ingredients. Different herbs, spices, or flower have varying levels of active compounds that contribute to their effects. Research the ingredient you are infusing with first to identify the effects you can expect. This knowledge will help you choose the right ingredients, or combination of ingredients, for maximum potency.
2. Quality Ingredients Make a Difference
To achieve stronger infusions, begin with high-quality ingredients. If you are starting with fresh garden herbs, make sure to dry them with your LĒVO Dry cycle. It is critical to Dry your fresh herbs in order to reap the benefits, preserve freshness, and acquire the desired potency from your end-infusion. When using flower, opt for high-quality strains. By starting with top-notch and well prepped ingredients, you set the stage for a powerful infusion. Unlike with fresh herbs, the Dry cycle is not necessary when working with flower, however the Activate cycle is necessary. We will dive into that deeper as you read on.
3. Grind for Success: Find the Perfect Texture
Ground herbs, flower and botanicals infuse more easily and effectively into your carrier medium, enhancing the potency of your infusion. However, avoid grinding them too finely, as you want to avoid any plant matter seeping through the mesh strainer of your Power Pod. Aim for a texture that allows for effective infusion without compromising the final product.
4. Decarboxylation: Unlocking the Power of Heat
Decarboxylation is a process that activates the compounds in herbs or flower by applying heat. This step is especially important for infusions involving flower, as raw flower contains mostly inactive compounds that need to be converted into their active forms. Make use of the activation process to unlock the full potential of your herbs and botanicals. Heating them gently before infusion releases chemical compounds that enhance potency. This is where LĒVO comes in! Utilizing the Activate cycle on your LĒVO II, LĒVO C or LĒVO Lux machine, decarboxylates the herb and helps to maximize the effects of these compounds, resulting in stronger infusions. Add your oil or butter to the LĒVO basin and you’re off to the next step: Infusion.
5. The Impact of Time and Temperature on Your Yield
One common mistake in homemade infusions is not allowing enough time for the ingredients to fully infuse into the carrier oil or liquid. Our Time and Temperature Calculator can help you determine the exact time and temperature according to your chosen herb or flower as well as your chosen carrier.
6. Double the Infusion Power: Go Beyond Single Pods
For LĒVO machine owners, here's a hack, or special technique, to supercharge your infusions. Utilize the double power pod method by adding two Power Pods to your LĒVO basin. With each pod holding around 7g herb or flower, this double pod method enables you to infuse up to 14g of herb into your carrier oil of choice, resulting in a more robust oil infusion and ultimately stronger edibles. Place both pods in the basin of your machine, and let your LĒVO work its magic. This method works for both LĒVO II and LĒVO Lux.
7. Experiment with Combinations: Mix and Infuse
To ramp up the therapeutic power of your edibles, consider combining different types of infusions into your recipes. Infused butter, honey, and oil can add depth and potency to your creations. Explore recipes that utilize various fats and use the same herb or botanical to create multiple infused ingredients.
8. Take Advantage of Powerful Potency Tools
If you are working with flower, consult with this Potency Calculator to help determine the potency of your home creations. This step will help you meet the dosing desires of your homemade edibles.

Finally going to use my Levo c , purchased a year ago.a few questions. I’ll be infusing flower. I think I’ve heard that you can/should decarboxyilize twice,is that correct? Same with running the infusing cycle? Also, how course the grind? Through a grinder?last,I have a Lego c,and I purchased a “powerpod”,, but
It is for the smaller machine . can still use it with my Lego c?

We would recommend activating the herbs in the jumbo pod twice and mixing them halfway through. After the first activate cycle, you can add your power pod and run a second cycle. You’ll want your herbs to be broken into pea-sized pieces!

Can I use grain alcohol in your machines to make herbal tinctures?

LEVO Oil Infusion, Inc. replied:
Hey there! LEVO is fantastic for infusing oils, butter, and even making glycerin herbal tinctures. However, it’s not recommended to use it with alcohols like Everclear. The LEVO machines are designed for infusing oils, butters, and glycerin, and using alcohols or other solvents can pose a risk of fire or electric shock. If you have any other ingredients in mind or need more info, feel free to ask! 🌿✨
