No. Every recipe in the library lists exact ingredients, exact timing, and the setting to use. If you can follow a recipe card, you can make any of the six staples above. + many more.
Both work. The lotion bar recipe infuses shea and coconut together in the reservoir. If you'd rather not put thicker butters in the machine, infuse coconut oil first, then blend it with shea or cocoa in a double boiler afterward. One note from an actual customer: a full cup of each is too much for the machine, so scale to about three-quarters of a cup each.
Hands-on time is minutes. Cycle time is hours. Coconut oil infuses at 170°F for up to five hours depending on the botanical. You load it, press start, and walk away. The stovetop version of the same job requires you to stand there the whole time.
The LĒVO II+ and Lux both use 16-ounce reservoirs, which suits lip balm, salves, and body butter batches. The LĒVO C infuses over four cups (946 mL) at once, better for gifting or making several products from one batch. One thing to know: the II+ and Lux have a Dry cycle for garden-fresh herbs, and the C does not, so if you're picking lavender or rosemary from your own garden, the II+ or Lux is the better fit.
A 16-ounce batch of infused oil is the base for several projects, not one. Lip balm, a jar of body butter, and a massage oil can all come out of the same infusion. The standard Power Pod holds about half a cup of dry herb, and the Jumbo Pod made for the C holds up to an ounce.
Coconut oil is the recommended starting carrier for skincare and body balms, and it pairs well with lavender, peppermint, and turmeric. It's forgiving, solidifies for whipping, and works across most of the recipes on this page.
LĒVO's recommendation for people allergic to both is to use coconut oil instead. Sweet almond and jojoba also work as substitutes in these recipes. Patch-test any new topical on a small area first, homemade or store-bought, especially with a botanical you haven't put on your skin before.
Store finished infusions in an airtight container in a cool, dark place. If you're using fresh herbs, run the Dry cycle first, since removing the moisture prevents mold and extends shelf life. Whipped body butter keeps at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
The LĒVO II's airtight seal keeps the smell contained during the cycle, so it stays minimal with the lid closed, though you'll notice the aroma when you open it. The Lux vents slightly more than the II because of its fan. With lavender or rosemary that's a feature, not a problem.
