The Base: Lavender-Infused Coconut Oil
You can use this infused oil as a base in all of the below recipes! If you don’t like lavender, use rosemary instead.
Ingredients:
- Dried lavender
- 1 cup coconut oil (shop organic virgin coconut oil)
Instructions: Take your fresh or dried lavender and fill your LĒVO Herb Pod to at least halfway. Add 1 cup of organic, virgin coconut oil to the reservoir. Set LĒVO temperature to 175°F and infuse for 30 minutes to one hour.
Note: With all of the following recipes, you will want the coconut oil to be soft and easy to mix, but not melted. If it’s too hard, zap it in the microwave for 10 seconds. If it’s too soft, pop it in the fridge until it firms up a touch.
1. Infused Coconut Oil & Honey Mask
Benefits: Raw honey has bacteria-fighting properties, so its perfect if you have acne or a few spots! It’s also been found to reduce the appearance of acne scars, moisturize the skin, and promote wound healing. The great thing about honey is that although it might not seem so, it is water soluble, meaning it will wash away easily with warm water. That means no sticky residue! The addition of lemon essential oil gives your skin a Vitamin C boost, and helps fight pore-blocking bacteria.
Ingredients:
- Raw honey (mānuka or kānuka honey, if you can get your hands on some!)
- Lavender-infused coconut oil
- Optional: Lemon essential oil
Instructions: Take 1 tablespoon of your good quality honey and mix it with 1 tablespoon of the LĒVO lavender-infused coconut oil in a small bowl. If you’re using lemon essential oil, add a few drops to the mix. Make sure your skin is damp, not wet, and apply to your face after cleansing, making sure to avoid the delicate eye area. Leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing.
2. Sweet Exfoliating Scrub
Benefits: One of the most common pantry items is drawn upon here: sugar! This face mask exfoliates and buffs away dead skin cells, revealing fresh, soft skin. It may help ease ingrown hairs, dislodge blackheads, and promote a more even skin tone. Exfoliating regularly can also assist with the absorption of other skincare products such as serums and moisturizers. Lemon juice may help with the reduction of acne scars and pigmentation.
Note: Don’t use if you have active acne flare-ups, dermatitis, or any other painful skin condition.
Ingredients:
- Juice of half a lemon
- Brown sugar
- Lavender-infused coconut oil
Instructions: Juice half a lemon into a small bowl. Add 1 tablespoon of the LĒVO lavender-infused coconut oil and 1 tablespoon of brown sugar to the bowl. Mix until you have a smooth paste, adding more sugar if needed (you don’t want it too runny). Rub into cleansed, damp skin, exfoliating in circular motions. Leave on the skin for 5-10 minutes, then rinse thoroughly.
3. Anti-Inflammatory Turmeric & Avocado Face Mask
Benefits: Turmeric has long been used as a great acne-fighting antibacterial for skin, and the fact that it’s full of antioxidants and is a natural anti-inflammatory means it’s a great option for most skin types. Similarly, avocado boasts antioxidants and anti-aging properties, whilst also containing lutein, which can improve skin elasticity.
Ingredients:
- Powdered turmeric
- 1 avocado
- Lavender-infused coconut oil
Instructions: Add 1 teaspoon powdered turmeric, half of a mashed avocado, and 1 tablespoon of lavender-infused coconut oil to a small bowl and mix together until smooth. Apply to cleansed, dry skin and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Try not to leave it on for too much longer, as turmeric can temporarily stain skin.
4. Naturally Exfoliating Oatmeal Face Mask
Benefits: Not just for your morning porridge, oatmeal is also a great skincare product if mixed with the right ingredients. Oats can help absorb excess oil in the skin, and cinnamon is a wonderful antibacterial and antifungal. Adding warm water to the mix will make for softer oats, meaning you can smooth them over your skin more easily.
Ingredients:
- Plain oats
- Ground cinnamon
- Warm water
- Lavender-infused coconut oil
Instructions: Grind 2 tablespoons of oatmeal in a food processor. Add to a small bowl, then mix in ½ teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon lavender-infused coconut oil, and enough warm water to make the mixture smooth, but not runny. Apply to your face and leave on for up to 20 minutes, before rinsing with warm water.
5. Nourishing Greek Yogurt Face Mask
Benefits: This recipe could absolutely be mistaken for breakfast! But the benefits of this face mask make it just as good as a topical treatment. The lactic acid in yogurt makes it a gentle exfoliant, so it can buff away the top layer of dead skin cells on your face. Hello glowing skin! Oatmeal can be helpful for calming redness, so it is a great face mask ingredient after too much sun exposure or if your skin’s feeling a bit tired and sensitive.
Note: Don’t use if you’re sensitive to dairy products.
Ingredients:
- Sugar-free Greek yogurt
- Cooked oatmeal (cooked in water)
- Lavender-infused coconut oil
Instructions: Mix 2 tablespoons cooked oatmeal, 1 tablespoon Greek yogurt and 2 teaspoons of lavender-infused coconut oil to a small bowl. Mix together, adding more yogurt or oats to get a paste-like consistency. Work into cleansed, dry skin and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing with warm water.
6. Pimple-Busting Baking Soda Face Mask
Benefits: Baking soda is alkaline, which means it can soften sebum and dirt on the skin, helping tackle pimple-causing issues. Likewise, tea tree oil helps prevent acne because of its antibacterial properties.
Note: Don’t use if you have skin that’s prone to dryness, as baking soda can have a drying effect.
Ingredients:
- Baking soda
- Lavender-infused coconut oil
- Tea tree essential oil
Instructions: Mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda, 1 tablespoon lavender-infused coconut oil, and 2 or 3 drops of tea tree oil together in a small bowl. Apply to areas where you generally get break-outs, and avoid sensitive areas such as around the eyes, nostrils and mouth. Leave on for up to 5 minutes, then rinse off with warm water.
7. Soothing Matcha Face Mask
Benefits: Matcha is a popular ingredient for people who struggle with rosacea and acne. The reason why the beloved Japanese tea is such a bright green is because it contains a high amount of chlorophyll, an ingredient that can be used to help treat sun damage. If you love matcha like we do, sit down with this Blueberry Lavender Matcha while your mask soothes your skin.
Ingredients:
- Matcha powder
- Aloe Vera gel or juice
- Lavender-infused coconut oil
Instructions: Add 2 teaspoons of matcha powder, 1 teaspoon of aloe vera gel, and 2 tablespoons of lavender-infused coconut oil to a small bowl and mix. Apply to your face and leave for up to 30 minutes.
